Should Christians Believe in Dinosaurs? Is This Belief Consistent with Scripture?

When I was growing up, I don’t ever remember people in church talking about dinosaurs, or purposely avoiding the subject. On the other hand at school we learned about dinosaurs and discussions about the age of the earth as fact. Never did anyone ever say whether I should or shouldn’t as a Christian believe this information. Nor was I ever questioned if I believed one way or another. Even now in writing this article, I had to take a step back to understand why someone wouldn’t, or think they shouldn’t, believe in dinosaurs. I’ve considered whether there was mention of dinosaurs in the Bible (especially on Noah’s Ark), and if there wasn’t, did that mean God did not create dinosaurs? Or did He create animals, many of whom were gigantic, that are not still on the earth? The unfortunate reality about being on either side of the should/shouldn’t argument is that this focus could undermine someone’s faith in the Bible, and by consequence, their faith in Jesus.Photo credit: ©Getty Images/Divaneth-Dias
