New Study Challenges Church Decline Narrative, Suggests Possible Growth in 2025

A new study challenges the belief that church attendance in the U.S. is declining, suggesting it may actually be growing, with weekly attendance rising from 28 percent in 2024 to a projected 32 percent in 2025. The Barna State of the Church report also highlights the continued cultural relevance of the church, a resurgence in volunteering—especially among Gen Z and Millennials—and shifting attendance trends, with men now outpacing women in weekly church participation.
