What Easter (Resurrection Day) is Really About

Only the priceless gift of Christ’s death on the cross and His resurrection from the dead enable us to have eternal life

When I was young Easter was all about finding hidden Easter baskets filled with jellybeans, other candy, and chocolate – a chocolate bunny that is.  There was no emphasis on what Easter is really about, and if there was, I doubt I would have listened anyway.

There are many who will say that Easter is nothing but a pagan holiday and should not be celebrated.  It’s only my opinion, but I think that viewpoint is a little over the top.  Easter is what you choose to make of it, and the same with Christmas.

To my way of thinking, there is absolutely nothing wrong with hiding Easter baskets (if you do that sort of thing) filled with candy etc.  Easter is fun for the kids and can be fun for the adults as well.

All that being said, it is vitally important to remember what Easter Resurrection Day is actually about.

Easter Resurrection Day is not about jellybeans and Easter baskets; it is about the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead.

For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; 4 and that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:”  1 Corinthians 15:3-4

16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.”  John 3:16

It is only through the priceless gift of Christ’s suffering on the cross and His subsequent resurrection from the dead that we receive the gift of life evermore.

For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: 9 not of works, lest any man should boast.”  Ephesians 2:8-9

Take a moment today to thank the Lord for His indescribable gift to you – freedom from the punishment and death that we all deserve, because we all have sinned, no exceptions (Romans 3:23).  Keep in mind that Jesus of His own free will went to the cross, no one killed the Lord Jesus Christ – He allowed this to happen.

14 I am the good shepherd, and know my sheep, and am known of mine. 15 As the Father knoweth me, even so know I the Father: and I lay down my life for the sheep. 16 And other sheep I have, which are not of this fold: them also I must bring, and they shall hear my voice; and there shall be one fold, and one shepherd. 17 Therefore doth my Father love me, because I lay down my life, that I might take it again. 18 No man taketh it from me, but I lay it down of myself. I have power to lay it down, and I have power to take it again. This commandment have I received of my Father.”  John 10:14-18

If you have not given yourself to the Lord, then you have not received forgiveness for your sins, and you have not received the gift of eternal life.  I implore you, I want to see you in Heaven, take a few minutes today to make Jesus Christ your Lord and Savior.  Don’t wait, tomorrow is not guaranteed.
