A spiritual “Stockholm syndrome”

Ever wondered why the Israelites couldn’t kill Goliath but David did. Israelites might have tried various strategies and might have had several emergency meetings but no one came up with the solution. For 40 days they saw the same result.

Because they couldn’t think right. They got intimidated by the size of Goliath and they couldn’t think anything else. They got stuck in that mindset.

Have you heard of the phrase – Old thinking old results?

God says you need to remove those mental blockages first from your mind. If you have the same old thinking you will not see a change.

Rom 12: 2 “Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind.”

The bible also says “We have the mind of Christ”.

This means we have to think like Christ and walk like Christ!

Back in January 2015 I took a big step of faith and I resigned my job with my previous employer. Before that, for nearly 6 months I remember coming home crushed in spirit. I knew it was not the right place for me. I wanted to resign but I thought I won’t get another job like that one. I was afraid to take that step. I thought my life will be destroyed if I resign. But looking back, that was one of the best decision I made. I changed my old thinking and got a new result!

This is the first and foremost thing you should do to become a giant killer!

Stockholm syndrome, or capture-bonding, is a psychological phenomenon in which hostages express empathy and sympathy and have positive feelings toward their captors, sometimes to the point of defending and identifying with the captors.

That’s what happens when we face a giant. We get spiritual stockholm syndrome and we refuse to think differently.

Jesus said this “No one puts new wine into old wineskins: otherwise, the wine will burst the skins, and the wine is lost, and so are the skins: but one puts new wine into fresh wineskins” (Mk. 2:22).

What is Jesus saying here? Don’t have old thinking pattern in your new life!

2 Timothy 2:20 “In a large house there are articles not only of gold and silver, but also of wood and clay; some are for special purposes and some for common use.”

God wants us to clear the wood and clay in our life. Until we remove the old thinking we cannot kill the Goliath. God wants us to remove the mental blockages in life so that we can experience the explosive blessing God has in store for us.
